The Crass Menagerie of characters in
Both Home Place and Home Country are based on a philosophy that politics only involves four categories of people. Which
category do you fall in?
GLOSSARY OF THE POLITICAL PLAYERS
SPECIALS. Specials are individuals who believe they should make all the rules and determine who follows them.
Of course Specials are exempt from all the rules. Any suggestion made to Specials will be perceived
as criticism because they already know everything. There can be spectacular fireworks if one Special disagrees
with another, as they both know everything.
ACCOUNTABLES. There are leaders in every community who consider themselves to be accountable
to the community. Accountables think that all the rules apply to all the folks all the time.
They believe that their representation should be for the citizenry who actually live within the town or territory they
represent. An Accountable will receive suggestion made by anyone as long as the delivery is respectful
and backup data is provided. Complaining to an Accountable without a positive alternative, as Specials
like to do, is wasted effort. Therefore Specials truly detest Accountables.
SEPARATES.
Separates keep to themselves and don’t get involved unless they or their friends have an immediate and direct
benefit. They don’t question what they hear. They make decisions solely based
on the emotion of the delivery. If there is no personal gain, they don’t participate.
If they are presented with more than one emotional side, they don’t participate either. Making
an informed decision by getting facts would require effort. Separates do not seek facts, nor do they put
forth effort.
OUTSIDERS. These are individuals who live outside the community. They
have no interest in the community and do not pay taxes to help support the community. They do, however,
use the free services and facilities provided by the community they live next to, like the arena, water tank and community
fishing hole. They befriend Separates, for whom friendships take precedence over everything, even survival
of the community.
